On Tuesday night, developments in the procedures for impeaching and trying US President Donald Trump followed, most notably the US House of Representatives voting on a resolution calling on US Vice President Mike Pence to activate Article 25 to remove Trump from office. Republicans announced their support for Trump's trial and reprimand.
Liz Cheney, the third-ranking Republican in the House of Representatives, the daughter of US Vice President Dick Cheney during the Bush era, said she would vote in favor of trying Trump, because he “summoned the mob and ignited the attack on the US Congress building. He is the one who did and would not have happened had it not been for the president, ”she said.
For his part, Republican member of the US House of Representatives Tom Reid said that he would join other lawmakers (Tuesday) to put forward a resolution rebuking President Donald Trump over the president’s supporters ’attack on the Capitol building on January 6.
He said in an article in the New York Times that he would also work to find a way for Congress to prevent Trump from seeking any future federal office.
"I intend to join my colleagues in the House of Representatives in proposing a reprimanding resolution on Tuesday to ensure accountability is achieved without delay for the events of January 6," Reid wrote.
Late Tuesday night, the Democratic-dominated House of Representatives voted in favor of a resolution calling on Vice President Pence to meet with the cabinet to summon the 25th Amendment to impeach Trump by 223 to 205 votes.
This step came after Pence announced in a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, on Tuesday, his refusal to activate Amendment 25 of the Constitution, in response to a request made by House Speaker Nancy Blossi on Tuesday, and given him 24 hours to respond.
"I do not believe that such a measure is in the interest of our nation or in conformity with our constitution," Pence said in the letter.
"I will not surrender to the political games in the House of Representatives at a critical time in the life of our nation," Pence said in his message.
The Vice President pointed out that “activating the 25th amendment to dismiss President Trump is not in the interest of the country nor the constitution,” calling on Democrats to work with him to reduce tension and unify the country.
The House of Representatives is expected to vote on Wednesday to impeach Trump on charges of inciting a revolt against the US government.
For her part, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, announced earlier today that she has chosen excellent people led by Representative Jimmy Ruskin to run Trump's trial, and that she will work with them.
